Portal: Chase – Map Pack (Work In Progress)
.
Intro:
Portal has long been one of my favourite games, and for me is the singular high point in the Valve’s Orange Box. It is a first person puzzle game involving physical challenges that usually ask the player to complete the seemingly simple objective of traversing the level or “test chamber” using the talents afforded to the player by the game-changing Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device (or Portal Gun to most people).
You can find out more about Portal here.
.
Story:
In Portal: Chase the player assumes the role of a test subject woken early to an unprepared and incomplete series of test chambers, in an attempt by combine forces (the primary police/military force within Half-Life2) to seize an active Portal Gun, while the facility’s AI is offline. Due to the test environments being incomplete the player is openly given glimpses of the behind the scenes workings of the facility. The player as the test subject is issued instructions by remaining scientists within the test chamber observation rooms and offices in an effort to keep the revolutionary weapon in the hands of its creators.
However the player does not solely play from this perspective. The player also assumes the role of an attacking combine force officer. Under this guise the player’s job is to hunt down the test subject and remove the portal gun from their possession, with orders being issued from the squad HQ and officers. The player alternates between perspective with each level change, and will often see the role they have just played or are about to play.
